ILS

Independent Living Skills (ILS) services provide training and assistance for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence while living with others or to acquire and maintain living independently.

ILS services are funded through the regional center and delivered to individuals living with their families or independently.

  • Skills we teach (but not limited to) comprise:

  • Menu planning

  • Meal preparation

  • Cooking

  • Grocery shopping

  • Cleaning and maintenance of household

  • Management of money (including shopping and banking) 

  • Personal hygiene and health 

  • Self-advocacy training

  • Scheduling/attending dental and medical appointments

  • Finding safe and affordable housing

  • Finding companionable roommates

  • Using public transportation

  • Independent participation and recreation in natural surroundings

  • Awareness of community resources such as fire, police, or emergency help

  • Assistance with issues of public benefit (MediCare, MediCal, Social Security, and SSI)
